What ?
Mizpah is a sanctuary place located up Northern Maine in the town of Grand Isle. It is a place that offers a sign
of hope for those who experience the pain of grief. It is a place to experience an emotional bond between
people who are separated either physically or by death. It is a special, peaceful place of comfort for people
and loved ones to see & enjoy the beauty nature has to offer.
Who ?
Dick Corbin is a successful prominent businessman who reaches out to help others in need. He devotes his
time to his family, friends and especially to cancer survivors.
Why ?
Dick was diagnosed with Hodgkin Decease in its’ fourth stage at the age of 23 years old and given less than a
year to live. He made a pact with God that if God would spare his life for as long as he could that he would
build a special place for cancer victims to go to. It was no easy road for Dick. Since 1969 he has been in and
out of hospitals from Maine to Boston. His cancer treatments led to more complication where he had to have a
hip replacement done twice, had a colostomy, became a Type-1 diabetic, had his thyroid gland and spleen
removed and just a few months ago had intestines removed in three areas. . Because of his attitude and
treatments he has undergone, he is a survivor. His disability has not prevented him from doing anything. No
matter who it is, Dick is willing to help them. Today Dick is dedicating a lot of his time and effort to two things
that are dear to his heart. Visitation to cancer survivors and a sanctuary place he has built for cancer victims
called MIZPAH.
When ?
In 1991 Dick set out to fulfill his part of the agreement he had made with God some thirty-nine years ago. He
went out and purchased a partial of land out in the countryside up Northern Maine where he grew up. He
named this place MIZPAH, a Hebrew name that means a place where you meet and help one another.
How ?
With the help of volunteers and generous donators Mizpah came to be a reality. Dick says he knows God is
giving him a helping hand in building Mizpah for there is a constant flow of volunteers and donators since day
one. I never realized this place would be what it is today. People see how this place is special and how it
reaches out to people in need. I truly thank all volunteers/donators past and present for they are the true
builders of Mizpah and what Mizpah is today.
